Twelve suspected illegal immigrants arrested in Ocean Beach

SAN DIEGO — Twelve suspected illegal immigrants were taken into custody Thursday in Ocean Beach after coming ashore on a small boat.

A citizen reported seeing the panga near the Ocean Beach pier about 5:15 a.m., San Diego police said.

Border Patrol agents were notified and arrested two men and then later located 10 other men were also taken into custody, Border Patrol Agent Scott Simon said.

It is believed that all 12 are from Mexico, Simon said.

The 20-foot boat was confiscated and towed away.

This is the second smuggling incident this week.

On Monday 11 Mexican citizens were apprehended in Carlsbad after being dropped off about 2 a.m. at Ponto Beach.

Seven men, three women and a 13-year-old boy, all of whom were determined to be Mexican citizens, were taken into custody after coming ashore.

Two Mexican men later intercepted on the boat were also arrested, Border Patrol officials said.
