San Antonio ICE deports record number of undocumented immigrants

SAN ANTONIO-- So far this year U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has deported more than 68,000 undocumented immigrants. It's another record number of deportations for the San Antonio office.


ICE reported 55,124 removals in 2010 and 63,090 removals in 2011.

"These record statistics show our officers are making effective enforcement decisions while adhering to our national priorities," said Enrique M. Lucero, field office director for Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Antonio. "Since many of our removals are criminal aliens, these stats also show our commitment to public safety."

Thirty-seven percent of those removed were convicted criminals and 33 percent were repeat immigration violators or immigration fugitives.

For years the San Antonio office has led the nation in the number of removals.

"We will not tolerate people who repeatedly game our system, and we will see to it they understand there is a price to pay," said Lucero.
The San Antonio office encompasses 54 counties in Central and South Texas, including the cities of San Antonio, Austin, Waco, the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo and Del Rio.
