147 immigrants found in Alton stash house

    Posted on Apr 18, 2014
U.S. Border Patrol agents detained 147 people suspected of being in the country illegally from a stash house Thursday afternoon in Alton — shortly after 81 people were found hiding in makeshift huts in McAllen.

The 147 people were discovered in a house at the 8900 block of North Bentsen Palm Drive.

Border Patrol spokesman Danny Tirado said he didn’t recall the exact time of the bust, but said it was not too long after the 81 people were found in a brushy area of McAllen northwest of Sprague and North 10th Street about 1 p.m.

The 147 people detained in Alton were from Mexico and various countries in Central and South America, Tirado said.
The people from both the brush in McAllen and the house in Alton were taken to the Border Patrol station to be processed for removal, Tirado said.
