    L.A. Bans Anti-Immigrant Groups

    La Opinión, Feb 07, 2006

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles city council approved a resolution last week that prohibits the existence of anti-immigrant militia groups and recognizes the contributions of immigrants during the city's expansion, according to Spanish-language daily La Opinión. Eric Garcetti, council president, who introduced the legislation, said he was proud that Los Angeles is an immigrant city and that his colleagues had agreed. Garcetti recalled Japanese internment camps during World War II, and the country's treatment of Chinese immigrants, and even African American slavery. "We shouldn't repeat that history," he said.

The Council of the city of the Angels approved yesterday unanimously a resolution that prohibits the existence of "cazainmigrantes" groups and recognizes the contribution of the immigrants in the growth of the city.

Eric Garcetti, president of the angelino council and who introduced the motion, said that she gave much pride him that the city of the Angels is a city of immigrants and who their colleagues have been in agreement.

"This resolution has been approved to review the history of the town of the Angels, where the first 44 settlers even were of different race", he indicated Garcetti. "We want to continue the history of the immigrants, but not moving to us of the form since it has happened in the past on immigration in this nation".

In that sense, Garcetti remembered the confinement in fields of "concentration" of the Japanese immigrants during World War II, the exclusion of the Chinese town, and even the slavery of the Afro-American ones. "we do not have to repeat that history", indicated Garcetti.

The resolution was received with great satisfaction by diverse groups that support to the innmigrantes. The Opinion tried to locate to representatives of the Minuteman group that is against to the presence of undocumented immigrants in the United States. Nevertheless, although a message in its office was left them, was not possible to contact them.

Angelica Rooms, director of the Coalition by the Human rights of the Immigrants in the Angels (CHIR IT), said to be satisfied by the decision of the council and aimed that the undocumented immigrants are also resident of the city of the Angels.

"Although they do not have documents, the immigrants they are resident of the city and they are people with rights, that although cannot vote are represented by the here present councilmen", it said Rooms, that remembered that this resolution managed to pass thanks to the collaboration of several Asian and Hispanic groupings that worked altogether.

    Satisfied

Pablo Alvarado, of the National Network of Day laborers, said that in the city he must not have space for hatred and the discrimination nor for the groups that promote them.

"the Minutemen must know that they cannot generate as much hatred, nor be poisoning so many hearts and so many minds. The day laborers only come to work, not to do damage to him to anybody ", indicated Alvarado, that also is promoting an initiative in the council of the city against the proposal of law HR4437, which would turn to the undocumented immigrants and the people who help them in criminals.

Richard, a day laborer who resides in the Angels and who attended the meeting of the council yesterday, thanked for the councilmen to be in please the people who the only thing which they look for is to work to maintain to its families.

"I have before been the Minutemen. Once in the city of Glendale they began to protest as opposed to the center of day laborers and to say very ugly things to us, that we were ruining them the life and things so they do not have much sense ", said Richard, who omitted to give his last name, but that had the value of appearing publicly before members of the council of the city.

Richard added that he does not want to confront to the "cazainmigrantes" but that is not scared because its intention is to work so that it can eat his family in Mexico.

The next Friday, the council of the city could be pronounced against law HR4437. This one would be the second resolution that would endorse the undocumented immigrants of the city.

It says they passed a resolution. A resolution carries no legal weight, it's just a statement. In this case, the council was just pandering to the hispanic groups. I'm sure the Mintuemen will soon organize another rally, just to show everyone that they're not leaving.

These resolutions are a joke. So what are they going to do if the Minutemen organize? Arrest them? Under what grounds? Some of these jacka--es need to go read the constitution. This toothless resolution wouldn't hold up in any court for a second. I hope the Minutemen start suing the cities of these illegal alien a$$ kissers for infringing on their 1st amendment rights.

No, because not all speech is free in 21st century America, unless it is endorsed by our leaders. Of course, this is exactly what the founders of this country we're trying to protect us from, but nothing lasts forever, especially in the face of a clueless and apathetic populace.

This is what the anti-American groups have wanted all along...to silence anyone and everyone that disagrees with their positions regarding illegal entrants to our nation.

If anti-illegal groups are not free to speak or to march or to protest or to gather...then they have grounds for a lawsuit against the city council, the city...etc.

Every person who is against illegal aliens needs to CORRECT anyone who calls it "anti-immigrate".
I do NOT accept the term "anti-immigrate"
The THURTH needs to be used at all times. Most news reports will NOT use the right term and they need to be told how they are mudding the water and we are aware of that and will not watch their shows anymore if they will not call it WHAT IT IS!
