TIJUANA.- On December 5th, 2014, a 2.5 ton delivery of marijuana was seized by authorities in Rosarito Beach, Baja California. The matter is now being investigated by federal authorities.

The nearly 300 packages of marijuana reportedly arrived in a suspicious looking boat off the shore of the Las Olas condominium complex, located on the Tijuana-Rosarito scenic freeway. An anonymous call to the authorities by a resident is reportedly what led state and municipal officials to the scene, where packages were strewn on the beach and in the process of being loaded into the vehicle of an associated person.

The packages were reportedly wrapped in masking tape and were in the process of being loaded into a trailer hitched to the pick-up truck of a drug runner, who - according to residents of the condo- had bound the security guards of the condominium by their hands and feet in the lobby of the condominium in order to gain access to the beach.

The drugs were intercepted presumably en route to the border, where drugs make its way across the U.S. border via land, sea, or underground tunnels. According to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) department, on a typical day in 2013 about 11,945 pounds of drugs are seized at the port of entries and interior check points.
