A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of exposing himself in front of a teen girl who was walking to summer school in Mesa.

Irineo Cruz Rivera, 31, who told police he is an illegal immigrant, was arrested on charges of public sexual indecency and false reporting to law enforcment agencies, according to court records.

Records accuse Cruz of driving his car near a 15-year-old girl who was walking to Mesa High School before 8 a.m. for summer classes and asking her in Spanish for directions, before telling her to engage in a sex act with him.

The suspect then exposed himself and began masturbating, before leaving the scene. According to records, the girl wrote down Cruz’s license plate number and then went to school and reported the crime.

Police located Cruz by finding his car, which the girl had described. The victim identified the man through a photo lineup.

Cruz refused to talk with police and requested an attorney, records show
