Police arrested two illegal immigrants while several others escaped after a police pursuit Monday afternoon.

Mission and Palmhurst police, with the help of a Department of Public Safety helicopter, put an end to a chase that began about 2:35 p.m. in south Mission, said U.S. Border Patrol spokeswoman Rosie Huey.

A Border Patrol agent assigned to the K-9 unit spotted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Conway Avenue, Huey said, adding that the driver of the vehicle may not have noticed the unmarked patrol car.

She said the agent called in the report to the Mission Police Department, which joined Palmhurst officers in trying to pull over the vehicle near the intersection of 3 Mile and Shary roads.

When the vehicle stopped, several individuals attempted to flee the scene, and police apprehended only two of about six or seven subjects, Huey said. Both were illegal immigrants.
