Campaign Headquarters Vandalized

Pawling, NY (AP) -- The campaign headquarters for republican Assembly candidate Greg Ball was painted sometime overnight - with messages of hate and swastikas. The storefront in Pawling had the words ``scum'' and ``fascist'' spray-painted on the doors and walls, along with some orange swastikas.

Ball is running in the 99th state Assembly district, which covers parts of Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties. He defeated long-time incumbent Willis Stephens in a Republican Primary. He now faces Democrat Kenneth Harper.

But Ball doesn't think Harper had anything to do with the vandalism.

Ball says ``This is the work of a sick and deranged individual who needs to get help.''

He says ``politics is a blood sport but there is no need for these types of actions.''

Ball has taken a hard line on illegal immigration and day laborers in the Hudson Valley, but says he is not ``anti-immigrant.'' He says he is just opposed to illegal immigration.

State Police are investigating the vandalism.
