Two members of the Mexican federal police were charged today after they were found with half a million dollars believed to be drug money, the district attorney's office said.
Authorities raided a West Covina home Wednesday as a part of an ongoing investigation and arrested Victor Manuel Juarez, 36, and Carlos Cepano Filippini, 34, who were confirmed to be members of Mexican federal police agency Agencia Federal de Investigacion, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney.
All four were expected to be arraigned this afternoon and are being held on $2 million bail. Each faces one felony count of possession of money as part of narcotics trafficking. If convicted, the defendants face up to four years each in state prison.
Drug Enforcement Administration officials found more than $500,000 in cash believed to be related to narcotics trafficking at the residence, Robison said. Two others, Hector Manuel Lopez, 33, and Julisa Lopez, 35, were also arrested for alleged possession of narcotics money.
