22 Percent of Resettled Refugees in Minnesota Test Positive for Tuberculosis

Well, the Left does dream of turning the U.S. into the Third World...

    5.18.2016 Tiffany Gabbay

The Left has worked tirelessly to turn the U.S. into a Third World country and has now taken another big step toward realizing its dream.

A study published by the Minnesota Department of Health reveals that roughly one out of every five resettled refugees in the state -- 22 percent -- tests positive for consumption (we may as well use the archaic name for tuberculosis since the Left wants to bring us back hundreds of years anyway).

Breitbart distills the relevant statistics from the report:

In 2014, 22 percent of refugees screened tested positive for LTBI (latent tuberculosis infection).

More than 70,000 refugees have been resettled in the United States annually for the past three decades by the federal government. It’s not just tuberculosis being brought in by these resettled refugees. Measles, whooping cough, diptheria, and other diseases that were on their way to eradication are also coming in across the borders of the United States.

The alarming public health report from Minnesota comes on the heels of news from the Centers for Disease Control that in 2015, the incidence of tuberculosis in the United States increased.

“Data from 2015 show that the number of TB cases has increased (by 1.7 percent) nationally [in the United States] for the first time in 23 years, with a total of 9,563 TB cases reported,” the Minnesota Department of Health reports.

Best of all, the brain trust at the CDC is apparently perplexed by what could possibly be causing the uptick.

The CDC's goal was to eliminate TB entirely from the U.S. population. While the center has still not been successful -- with refugees bringing us the gift of exotic and once-eradicated diseases -- that goal is now farther away than ever.

CDC reports that in 2014, 66 percent of reported TB cases in the U.S. occurred among foreign-born persons:

“Today four states – California, New York, Texas and Florida – have more than half the nation’s active TB cases, though they have only a third of the country’s population. The four states have the highest numbers of foreign-born residents,” according to the Star Tribune.

Minnesota's Star Tribune also reports on another disturbing aspect of the TB issue:

Treating TB patients is labor intensive.

The cost of treating an active TB case that is susceptible or responsive to drugs averages $17,000, according to the CDC. Care of patients with drug-resistant TB, which can result from taking antibiotics prescribed before TB was properly diagnosed, costs many times more: $134,000 for a multidrug-resistant patient and $430,000 for an extensively drug-resistant one.

But TB isn't the only disease being reintroduced into the U.S. population by migrants. Breitbart also reported a recent outbreak of measles in Memphis, Tennessee that began at a local mosque.

Between the introduction of exotic and once nearly-eradicated diseases, and the left's anti-vaccine hysteria, this does not spell good news for the country. Not good at all.

Medical screening, which includes testing for these illnesses should be part of the vetting process completed prior to allowing them to enter the United States. If one person in a family unit test positive, no one from that family should be allowed to enter.

None of the H1-b workers from India are tested, they are living here, their country sees TB often. Also the global flying is consistent and no one is checked for any diseases other than a Q&A form where lying can happen. TB testing used to be a requirement to immigrate to the USA. Treatment for resistant forms up to $400K - each case, paid for by US citizens.
