Cocaine found in truck is worth $8.6 million

BROWNSVILLE — U.S. Border Patrol agents found 270 pounds of cocaine valued at $8.6 million in a tractor-trailer passing through the agency's Laredo Sector checkpoint on Interstate 35, officials said Monday.The drugs and truck were seized Saturday. The driver, whose name was not released, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Agents at the same checkpoint on Friday found 13 unauthorized immigrants hidden in a tractor-trailer. All were being processed for prosecution.

Sunday, agents at the U.S. 59 checkpoint near Freer found a suitcase containing marijuana valued at $47,000 in the luggage compartment of a commercial bus. None of the passengers claimed ownership of the bag.
