2nd Man Charged in Immigrant Deaths
http://news.ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=520654
SALT LAKE CITY - A second person has been charged in the deaths of two illegal immigrants who were in a pickup truck that rolled on a southern Utah highway, authorities said Thursday.
The victims, meanwhile, have been identified as a man and woman from Guatemala.
A federal grand jury indicted a passenger, Eduardo Barrios-Socop, 35. He and the driver, Eswin Enrique Aquino-Lopez, 23, are charged with transporting illegal aliens resulting in death.
``We believe Barrios-Socop played a significant role in facilitating and arranging the transportation of the aliens,'' the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
The men, both from Guatemala, remained in custody after pleading not guilty in federal court in Salt Lake City.
The pickup carrying eight people crashed June 7 on State Road 59, between Hurricane and Hildale, near the Utah-Arizona border.
The victims were Senayda Solis Monzon, 37, of Retalhuleu, Guatemala, and Pedro Antonio Coycoy, 26, of La Libertad, Guatemala, according to the Guatemala Consulate.
Aquino-Lopez said he was driving some passengers to Las Vegas from Casa Grande, Ariz., as a favor to a friend while others promised to give him money for gas, according to federal authorities.
Seven of the eight people were from Guatemala.
Separately, in the Four Corners area of southeastern Utah, eight illegal immigrants died when a sport utility vehicle rolled April 16. Three people have been charged in that case, including the driver and a man accused of arranging the trip."Ask not what your country can do for you --ask what you can do for your country" John F.
