REPS. MILLER, MYRICK, SMITH INTRODUCE RESOLUTION AFFIRMING

REPS. MILLER, MYRICK, SMITH INTRODUCE RESOLUTION AFFIRMING STATE, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS' ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO CARRY OUT AND ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAWS

    WASHINGTON, D.C.

Rep. Gary Miller, R-Calif. (42nd CD), issued the following news release:

Today, Reps. Gary Miller (R-CA), Sue Myrick (R-NC), and Lamar Smith (R-TX) introduced a resolution to express the sense of the House of Representatives that state and local governments have the inherent authority, in the course of carrying out routine duties, to assist in the enforcement of the immigration laws of the United States.

All three Members of Congress are co-chairs of the Reclaim American Jobs Caucus.

"Although the federal government is charged with enforcing immigration laws on the books, it has failed to do so," said Congressman Miller.

"In fact, the Obama administration is arguably increasing the illegal immigration problem.

It has slashed worksite enforcement efforts and has even driven illegal immigrants back to work.

This administration's deliberate decision to not fully enforce America's immigration laws has forced state and local governments to bear the brunt and cost of illegal immigration."

llegal immigration costs state and local governments billions of dollars annually and also poses a threat to the security of the United States.

As drug-related violence has greatly escalated in recent years, Mexican drug trafficking organizations now have a presence in 230 American cities.

Also, several terrorists connected to the 9/11 attacks and the recently foiled Times Square plot were found to have overstayed their visas, one of which was stopped for a traffic violation two days prior to the September 11th terrorist attacks.

"Contrary to the federal government, many state and local governments, such as Arizona, have actively worked to discourage illegal immigration and assist in the enforcement of our nation's immigration laws," said Congressman Miller.

"These acts will greatly help to alleviate the costs of illegal immigration on taxpayers and will enhance national security-who knows, the Arizona law may even disrupt the next terrorist attack."

"It is mind-boggling that administration officials, such as Secretary Napolitano and Attorney General Holder, have blasted the Arizona law without so much as even reading the bill," added Congressman Miller.

"It is well past time for this administration to get on the side of the American people and aggressively enforce our nation's immigration laws."
