Are the new illegal immigration laws working too well?

Are the new illegal immigration laws working too well?

According to USA Today, illegal immigrants living in states and cities that have adopted strict immigration policies are packing up and moving back to their home countries or to neighboring states.

The exodus has been fueled by a wave of laws targeting illegal immigrants in Oklahoma, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and elsewhere. Many were passed after congressional efforts to overhaul the immigration system collapsed in June.

Immigrants say the laws have raised fears of workplace raids and deportation. Supporters of the laws cheer the departure of illegal immigrants and say the laws are working as intended. But some folks think the laws are working too well.

With the departure of so many people in Riverside, N.J., the local economy suffered. Hair salons, restaurants and corner shops that catered to the immigrants saw business plummet; several closed. Once-boarded-up storefronts downtown were boarded up again, reported the New York Times.

What are your views about the new laws that are driving out illegal immigrants? Are the new laws having a bulldozer effect when a shovel might be more appropriate? Or are they exactly the right tools for solving the problem? Will we pay an economic price for the immigrant exodus?

If the law would work well, they would not be here.

    More enforcement please.

Why should any american care if businesses who cater to illegals board up there doors? I for one don't care and I am sick of seeing these businesses and taco stands. I also don't care if the economy suffers. We are riding a false economy anyway. Everyone knows that if we followed the constitution right now today that there would be a bump in the economy. I for one welcome that. I still feel that we the middle class would benefit from following the constitution. For that matter our poor would also. The reason for the veto in the S Chip bill is because Bush knows that the majority would be illegal immigrants children that would benefit most. We just can't shoulder this any longer.

The only ones who care if they are working too well are the greedy businesses. IMO, they are not working well enough. ICE needs more funding, and the cities who have passed legislation should get more federal help as well. Any sanctuary funding should be terminated immediately and given to the cities who are focusing on enforcing immigration laws.

Once American citizens realize these areas no longer make them feel like they don't belong, I'm sure they will return. And instead of seeing Jose's taco you will see Joes bar & grill.

Well of course some things are going to close. All those people create a demand. As they leave their demand leaves, but this is good because then the farmers won't have to pick as many crops and they won't be "rotting in the fields of armageddeon" or whatever they were threatening us with before.

The economy won't suffer. We'll just be rid of some illegal immigrant trade. Whole malls have been built to cater to them. Let them close. Increase the enforcement. Increase the tools. Get them out. The economy will be fine.

So, the businesses catering to illegals have closed up. I wonder who owns those businesses??? Anyone want to guess??
Half of their business was probably off the books anyway so what good did it do the U.S. economy?? Then they send their money back to their home countries! They are of no consequence to this economy or country so please spare me the tears. I doubt the city of Riverside Nj will dry up and blow away because Pedro's taco stand closes.
