A Southampton house painter was sentenced to 30 years in prison for a string of sexual attacks on Hamptons beaches.
"I ask forgiveness," John Giraldo, 31, an illegal immigrant from Colombia, said in Spanish to Judge James Hudson in Suffolk County Court on Friday.

But calling the defendant a "frightening predator," Hudson said Giraldo deserved no mercy.

"After your release from prison you will not breathe the free air of this great country ever again.

"Instead, you will be deported from our land, sent away never to return," he seethed.

The judge said Giraldo's three victims believed they were going to die. "You put that terror into them," the judge said.

In each attack, Giraldo, naked except for a ski mask over his face, sprung from sand dunes and sexually assaulted the women as they walked or jogged along beaches in Southampton, Bridgehampton or East Hampton.

He was arrested in June 2005 when a passerby came to the rescue of a 61-year-old woman being attacked near the exclusive Maidstone Club in East Hampton and called police.

Giraldo pleaded guilty in November to 14 charges, including sodomy and sexual abuse.

However, Hudson nixed the 20-year sentence prosecutors offered to him, saying it was too lenient.

Glad the judge turned down the plea agreement. I hope he's right about never breathing free air in the US again.
