ACAPULCO, Mexico — Police in Mexico say four mutilated bodies have been found near a middle school in Chilpancingo, state capital of drug-plagued Guerrero state.

A state police department report says the bodies were discovered an hour before classes began Thursday. The report says a sign next to the victims read "the boss of bosses" - a tag that authorities attribute to the Beltran-Leyva cartel.

In neighboring Michoacan state, the Aptzingan city prosecutor's office says two federal officers died from gunshot wounds suffered in a series of attacks across the state Wednesday. The attacks killed a total of three federal officers and one civilian.

Drug violence has killed more than 14,000 people in Mexico over the past three years
