Three firefights Monday resulted in seven deaths, a kidnap victim rescued, a suspect arrested, and weapons, ammunition, and equipment seized, the Mexican military reported.

Operations were reported at MarÃ*n, Vallecillos and Sabinas Hidalgo.

The first encounter occurred at the entrance to MarÃ*n where two suspects in a vehicle fired at military troops. The suspects were killed, the military said.

Troops searched the vehicle and found an injured woman who is believed to have been kidnapped. She was taken to a hospital in Monterrey.

Also found in the vehicle were two weapons, 38 magazines, 770 rounds of ammunition and three cartridge belts.

On the Sabinas Hidalgo–Vallecillos road, at the intersection with the highway to Laredo, in the municipality of Vallecillos, troops saw several subjects in a pickup that fled and evaded detention.

The pickup was later found abandoned. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of nine weapons, a grenade launcher, a grenade, 236 magazines, 1,252 rounds of ammunition, 200 doses of cocaine, 60,000 pesos — about $5,200 — and four military-type uniforms.

Troops also found and detained a suspect who was injured and is believed to have fled from the pickup.

The third encounter occurred on the Monterrey–Sabinas highway, at the entrance to Sabinas Hidalgo, where suspects in several vehicles fired at the military, according to the report.

Five suspects were killed, and troops seized three weapons, 40 magazines, 5,807 rounds of ammunition, a cartridge belt, a military-type helmet and two vehicles.
