41st District Candidate Skirts Against The Rule: No Campaigning in City Hall

MALIBU - 41st District Republican Candidate Tony Dolz came before the city council to ask them to oppose illegal immigration. But, he started and later continued his public comments in a small stump speech for his 41st District campaign. Dolz began his public comments by stating his name was "Tony Dolz and I am a candidate for the 41st District."

As the candidate's comments turned for his own political gain, Councilmember Sharon Barovsky interrupted Dolz's speech.

"There is no campaigning allowed here," Barovsky said.

But, Dolz continued speaking ignoring Barovsky and even speaking louder over her voice. Dolz stated how he was a "founding member of the minutemen" and was "born in Cuba."

Barovsky interrupted Dolz once more telling him, "Excuse me. There is no campaigning here."

But Mayor Ken Kearsley interrupted Barovsky telling her to back down.

    "Sharon. You are on order."

Dolz continued his speech holding up pictures of children who had been raped by illegal immigrants and outright making comparisons between the illegal who'd raped the child and the terrorists who rammed planes into the two towers in New York on September 11.

"Need I remind you the men who crashed into the two towers were also in this country illegally," Dolz said.

Dolz's comments were made just after one of his supporters spoke to the Council about opposing illegal immigration.

The political meter pegged even further as Dolz's appearance at the City Council came on the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks and just after Councilmember Pamela Conley Ulich requested two minutes of silence to remember those who had fallen five years ago.

Dolz is as he said, a member of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps. Despite California Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' and numerous other Americans' support of the Presidents Amnesty, Guest Worker Program, and path to citizenship for suspected felons: document fraud, identity theft and tax fraud, Dolz opposes Bush's plan.

In Texas, opposition to the program is growing. Eleven Texas senators have grouped together to oppose bills on the Texas legislature floor. But, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger praised the Minuteman Project. The Minutemen are renowned for patrols of the Mexican-American border in a military style opposition of illegal immigrants entering the United States.

Schwarzenegger has in the past indicated he supports Minuteman and has sent California resources to expand its patrols to California. The Mexican-American Political Association, however, criticized the remarks by those who support the program as "nothing short of base racism." President Bush has denounced the Minutemen as vigilantes.
