    Madera County law-enforcement officers have eradicated about 5,000 marijuana plants growing in Coarsegold.

    Narcotics agents believe the marijuana garden was being cultivated by drug cartels, said a Madera County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman.

    Three people were tending to the marijuana plants, but no one was at the garden when agents arrived Wednesday afternoon.
