EL PASO - Five men were shot execution-style before dawn Thursday in the community of El Millon, east of Juárez across the Rio Grande from Fabens, Chihuahua state police said.

The men were lined up, their heads covered and their hands and feet bound by tape when they were shot in the back yard of a home, police said. The men, who had not been identified, were wearing pajama pants and underwear.

Some Juárez news outlets reported the men belonged to a family and were pulled out of a home while they slept.

Investigators said the men were killed by 11 rounds fired by a "military-style" small firearm.

The deaths are part of a wave of violence that has claimed more than 200 people in the Juárez area this year, including several decapitations and mass shootings in recent weeks.

The bodies of three men were found Wednesday morning floating in the Acequia Madre ditch in Juárez, state police said.

The men's faces were covered with gray tape, and their hands and feet were bound with plastic ties. Two of the men were identified as Sergio Eduardo Gallegos Regalado, 45, and Melquiades Omar Diaz Reyes, 23. The third man had not been identified.

The deaths were part of an unrelenting wave of violence that tallied 16 homicides Tuesday in the Juárez area and more than 1,700 deaths since January 2008.
