One dead, seven detained off Cutler Bay marina

One person was dead and seven others were in custody Tuesday night as federal agents investigated a possible human-smuggling trip that ended near a Cutler Bay marina. A park ranger spotted a group in a 30-foot boat Tuesday night off the Black Point Marina, 24775 SW 87th Ave. The people jumped out of the boat and tried to get to shore.

Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrived and were investigating, said Nicole Navas, an agency spokeswoman. Agents were looking into the possibility that it was a drug or human-smuggling operation.
