Cornyn to Obama: Immigration reform NOW--not next year

Obama is pointing toward next year for immigration reform. But John Cornyn wants to know why we can't do it right away.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn and President Obama don't agree on much. One subject of common purpose: Both men want comprehensive immigration reform.

But Cornyn took strong exception today to Obama's comment at a press conference in Guadalajara that immigration reform would have to wait until next year.

"Today President Obama backtracked on his promise to address comprehensive immigration reform during his first year in office," Cornyn said in a statement released by his office. "After stating several times on the campaign trail that it would be a 'top priority,' I am disappointed he has changed his tune."

Obama, speaking at the conclusion of a North American leaders' summit in Mexico, told reporters that his plate was full, what with health-care reform and energy/climate change legislation. "It's important for us to sequence these big initiatives," the president reasoned, "so they don't all crash at the same time."

That doesn't matter much to Cornyn, who strongly opposes the Obama approach to -- you guessed it -- health-care reform and energy/climate change.

Said Cornyn: "Immigration reform is long overdue and belongs on President Obama's full plate."

Still, when it comes to the substance of comprehensive reform, there's not much difference between the Republican senator and the Democratic president.

"It's important that immigration legislation protects our borders, promotes economic prosperity in Texas and throughout the United States, and is consistent with our American values of compassion, family, and opportunity," Cornyn declared. "I urge President Obama to reconsider his decision and put immigration reform back on his priority list."

What do you think? Do you want comprehensive immigration reform this year? Next year? Never?

When does this idiot come up for re-election? We need to get rid of this unrep. He does not want what is best for America and American workers. Tell him when he tries to be re-elected to go over to Mexico and run.

I hope Cornyn is saying this to make Obama unpopular with the Hispanic voters who expeced him to pass amnesty this year. Or maybe, Cornyn knows that Obama will sink his poll numbers to the toilet if he pushes for amnesty with the high unemployment numbers.

Either way, we need to hound Conrnyn for supporting CIR a.k.a. amnesty.

This is really bad news, folks. Cornyn and Chuck Schumer sit at the top of the heap on the Senate Immigration Subcommittee with the clout to push CIR legislation through and out to the entire Senate. Really bad...I don't know what to say. I have been sending emails to both Senators telling them that our nation is far from secure. Just look at the amount of crime all over the country taking place!

You can hope for the best, if you want, as many seem to be doing here. They are hoping the entire Senate will not have enough votes to pass it..or that the US House will go strongly against it. I would rather try to stop something in Committee.

They need to explain just how CIR is going to fix the sysytem, they spew this lie but never explain just exectly how it will fix it, WHY, because it can't and it won't.

Again...Once they give amnesty is that going to scare the border closed.....are people around the world going to go, Damn if you cross that border or over stay your visa in America they are going to give you amnesty ! crap we better stay the hell out of the U.S. I don't think I can take that kind of punishment
