57 Arrested in Immigration and Customs Operation in West Michigan






GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — According to a Tuesday press release, 57 people were arrested in West Michigan as part of a four-day U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation targeting “criminal aliens, immigration fugitives and other immigration violators.”

The operation ended March 6 and spanned 16 West Michigan communities, including Grand Rapids, Holland and Muskegon.

Of the 57 arrested, 54 had prior convictions for crimes. The other three were “priorities for arrest as egregious immigration violators.”

Some of those prior convictions included criminal sexual conduct against a minor, felony assault with a weapon, felony carrying a concealed weapon, larceny and drug possession.

According to ICE, 32 of those arrested were from Mexico and 18 were from Guatemala. People from Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Jamaica, Zambia, Bosnia and Brazil were also arrested.

Fifty-three of those arrested were men.
