3 young men in Tijuana killed in AK-47 attack

TIJUANA — Gunmen armed with AK-47s killed three young men who were walking in an eastern neighborhood yesterday evening, state authorities said.

The attack occurred in an area called Fraccionamiento Seminario around 5:35 p.m. Police had not identified the victims last night, but they were thought to be 20 to 25 years old.

Hours earlier, a gunfight between a Mexican military convoy and suspected drug traffickers at a southeastern gas station left one soldier injured, authorities said.

Staff at the Red Cross hospital said that a soldier, identified as Evit Gasiel Ocaña, 28 was treated for a bullet wound to his left foot and released three hours after being brought in.

Officials with the state attorney general's office and the municipal police department said that attack occurred around 1 p.m. when an Army convoy was getting gasoline at a station on Rosas Magallón Boulevard, near Parque Industrial PacÃ*fico, in the southeastern sector.

No further details were available from the Mexican military. However, in an unusual move, dozens of military convoys were seen throughout the afternoon patrolling various neighborhoods, including the Rio zone, even during periods of heavy rainfall.
