GILA BEND, AZ - Maricopa County sheriff's deputies say they rescued six illegal immigrants in a remote desert area near Gila Bend after they had been walking for seven days.
The sheriff's office said Monday that they got a tip about the group of immigrants on Saturday and found them soon after using an agency helicopter.
The helicopter crew called in ground units who interviewed the immigrants.
The immigrants reported that they had been walking for a week in the desert and hadn't had food or water for the last two days after being abandoned by their smuggler.
The U.S. Border Patrol took the immigrants into custody after that.
