KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Jamaica has repatriated 62 Haitian migrants, including three men authorities say escaped from prison after January's devastating earthquake.

Police Inspector Steve Brown said Tuesday the group left for the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince aboard a Jamaican Defense Force boat.

Authorities did not say what crimes the men had allegedly committed.

The group of 48 men, eight women and six children arrived in two overloaded boats last week. They were towed ashore by local fishermen.

Three of the migrants had been hospitalized with dehydration and high fever.

Jamaican officials said they could not afford to let them stay.

The Jan. 12 earthquake killed an estimated 230,000 people and left some 1.3 million homeless.
