    U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: May 14 - May 20
    (05/20/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 9,616 pounds of marijuana valued at $7,693,040 and 251 pounds of cocaine valued at $8,042,880. Agents arrested 14 criminal aliens and 3 gang members. There were 19 rocking incidents.

    *This overview is compiled from incidents reported to the Office of Border Patrol and is not intended to reflect all Border Patrol enforcement actions. Most arrests and seizures fail to meet the requirements for mandatory reporting to the Office of Border Patrol.

    El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During his arrest, the subject became combative and assaulted an agent. The subject was able to be subdued and taken into custody, but continued his assaultive behavior and spit on agents during processing.


    Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a United States Citizen (USC), recovered a .38 caliber Colt revolver, and seized a 1984 Buick Le Sabre at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and was referred to a secondary inspection. Records checks revealed that he was the subject of an active warrant in the State of Texas for driving under the influence, and that he is a suspect in an intoxication manslaughter case. A search revealed the weapon inside the vehicle.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,684 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,347,040, a 2000 Mack tractor-trailer, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint in Sarita, Texas. The two subjects presented themselves for inspection, and a scan revealed anomalies in the trailer. A search revealed marijuana concealed in hollowed out stucco foam boards.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 354 pounds marijuana valued at $282,864 and a loaded .380 Hi-Point handgun near Hickiwan, Arizona. While conducting patrol duties, agents encountered seven abandoned backpacks of marijuana and the handgun.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC, two nationals of Mexico, and seized an ultra light aircraft and 242 pounds of marijuana valued at $193,968 near Lordsburg, New Mexico. Agents observed the ultra light aircraft flying low to the ground and approached after it landed. An immediate search of the vicinity revealed 10 bundles of marijuana stored in a metal gondola.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested four illegal aliens from Mexico and seized 411 pounds of marijuana valued at $328,608 near Ajo, Arizona. The group was discovered backpacking the marijuana through the desert. One subject complained of chest pains and was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services. The subject was treated and released into Border Patrol custody.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC near the port of entry in Fort Hancock, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an outstanding warrant for homicide and for violation of parole in the State of Texas.


    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureno 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States.


    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC, seized 1,055 pounds of marijuana valued at $844,000, a 1998 Dodge truck and a 1999 trailer at the checkpoint near Hebbronville, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search of the trailer revealed 36 bundles of marijuana.


    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Somalia near San Diego, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted aggravated felon with an extensive criminal history.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Arivaca, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender in the State of New York and was previously removed from the United States.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Deming, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal and immigration history and an outstanding warrant for injury to spouse in the State of California.


    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 251 pounds of cocaine valued at $8,042,880 at the traffic checkpoint near Freer, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to a tractor-trailer, and a subsequent search revealed 100 bundles of cocaine in boxes commingled in a shipment of industrial drums containing polyester.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Mexico, seized 1,812 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,450,000, and a 2002 tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search revealed 146 bundles of marijuana.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC near Hidalgo, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant for aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a firearm in the State of Florida.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Picacho, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted child sex offender in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Mexico near Palominas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant for rape of a child in the State of Washington.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the State of Utah and had been previously removed from the United States.


    Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents encountered a two-vehicle traffic accident near Yuma, Arizona. Agents rendered medical attention to a pregnant woman and two children for non-life threatening injuries, and provided traffic control until local law enforcement officials assumed control of the accident scene.

    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC, seized 1,982 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,586,000, and a Volvo tractor-trailer at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A subsequent search revealed the marijuana concealed inside wooden spools used to haul cable.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Douglas, Arizona. Record checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the State of Oregon, had an extensive criminal history, and was previously removed from the United States.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,959 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,566,960 near Nogales, Arizona. Agents encountered several individuals carrying bundles of marijuana, which dropped the bundles and absconded.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun, a stolen Springfield 9mm handgun, 64 rounds of ammunition, and three pistol magazines near Arivaca, Arizona. Agents observed a group of suspected illegal aliens and attempted to apprehend them. The subjects fled the area and the weapons and ammunition were discovered abandoned after a search.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio, Texas Station arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Del Rio, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Tango Blast gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and was previously removed from the United States.


    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. The subject resisted arrest and an agent deployed his Border Patrol issued Collapsible Straight Baton to affect the arrest. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and was previously removed from the United States.


    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Laredo, Texas. The subject resisted arrest by fighting and attempting to flee. An agent deployed his Border Patrol issued Oleoresin Capsicum Spray and the subject was subdued. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history including narcotics arrests and a robbery conviction. The subject was also previously removed from the United States.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued ten illegal aliens from Mexico after they became lost in the desert near Why, Arizona. Border Patrol agents and CBP Air and Marine agents were deployed to conduct a search after one of the individuals placed a 911 call. The group was located and treated for exposure. One subject was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for dehydration and released into Border Patrol custody.
