Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement have arrested a 68-year-old El Paso woman for allegedly smuggling almost 40 pounds of cocaine from Mexico into El Paso.

Agents said Concepcion Bertha Montoya was arrested at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Bridge of the Americas after they found the cocaine in a hidden compartment of a 1993 Dodge Caravan she was driving. The cocaine was wrapped in 15 bundles and is worth more than $1.2 million.

A drug-sniffing dog named "Outlaw" alerted agents to the van during a sweep of vehicles waiting in line to cross into El Paso. Montoya remains in the El Paso County Jail today without bond.

Notice that they convey that this was an "El Paso" woman. I'll bet not.

CBP: Woman Arrested For Trying To Smuggle Cocaine

    Posted: 8:23 pm MST January 13, 2011Updated: 9:21 pm MST January 13, 2011

EL PASO, Texas -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 38.9 pounds of cocaine Wednesday.

Officers working at the Bridge of the Americas stopped a 1993 Dodge Caravan trying to come across from Mexico. According to authorities, officers and K-9 teams were conducting a sweep of vehicles waiting in line when the dog alerted to the vehicle. CBP officers launched an exam and located a non-factory compartment in the firewall area of the car, authorities said.

According to CBP officials, officers drilled into the compartment and removed a white substance that tested positive for cocaine. CBP officers removed 15 cocaine-filled bundles from the compartment, according to authorities.

“Smuggling organizations will use every imaginable method to get the narcotics through our international ports of entry,â€
