CBP Officers in Buffalo Arrest 74-Year-Old Woman on 29-Year-Old Warrant

    (Tuesday, February 02, 2010)

Lewiston, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Field Operations announced the apprehension of a Canadian citizen wanted in New York City for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

On February 2, CBP officers encountered Homenella Cole, a 74-year-old Canadian citizen from Hamilton, Ontario, as she arrived at the Lewiston-Queenston border crossing in Lewiston, N.Y. Cole advised CBP that, due to previous criminal convictions in Canada, she was inadmissible to the United States and was at the bridge to apply for a criminal waiver that would allow her to enter the country as a as a visitor.

During secondary processing, record checks revealed that Cole was the subject of an active felony warrant issued on April 1, 1980 by the New York City Police Department. The warrant charges Cole with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

CBP officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition. Cole was arrested on the outstanding warrant and turned over to the custody of the New York State Police pending extradition to New York City.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
