82% Say Voters Should Show Photo ID
82% Say Voters Should Be Required to Show Photo ID
Thursday, August 19, 2010
An overwhelming majority of Likely Voters in the United States think all voters in the country should be required to present photo identification in order to vote in U.S. elections.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters finds that just 14% disagree and think the current identification system is sufficient. Just 4% are undecided on the issue.
This is a sentiment that spans demographics, as majorities in every demographic agree that photo identification should be required to vote.
While this is the highest level of support since polling on the question began in 2006, support has always remained very high for such a requirement.

The survey of 1,000 Likely U.S. Voters was conducted on August 11-12, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
The U.S. Justice Department has told a major Ohio county to print bilingual ballots for the November election or it will be sued by the government. But most voters believe that election ballots in this country should be printed only in English.
As of about a year ago, two-thirds of American adults nationwide (66%) say their vote really matters on Election Day.
With midterm elections less than three months away, nearly two-out-of-three voters (65%) remain at least somewhat angry at the current policies of the federal government in all areas, including 40% who are Very Angry.
Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters oppose the Justice Department’s decision to challenge Arizona’s new immigration law in court. Fifty-four percent (54%) think the Justice Department instead should take legal action against cities that provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Even more think the federal government should cut off funds to these “sanctuary cities.â€A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

I agree people should show photo ID to vote. You should see how much ID you now need just to renew your driver's license in Florida.

Who are the 14% who disagree with showing id to vote? They're either brain dead or illegal invaders who have no id. In any event, it’s clear a substantial majority of Americans agree with showing id to vote. So why isn't this a federal law mandating this practice? Why is a resistant minority in this country given such power to prevent this from happening??

Voting is one of our most important rights as citizens of the U.S. We have to show photo ID at various places....so common sense should dictate we show such ID when we vote. But seems there is little common sense especially in politics.

I have to show two pieces of identification to get a library card at my local library. Yet participating in the electoral process in this country which is at the heart of our democracy is based on the honor system. Even mexico knows better than that and requires a national identification card if you want to vote in that country.

The latest Rasmussen poll on voter ID is sure to frustrate liberal advocacy organizations like the NAACP and the League of Women Voters that oppose commonsense proposals to ensure the integrity of our election process. They have been waging a losing litigation battle against states to try to prevent them from implementing photo ID requirements.
Rasmussen reports that an overwhelming majority of likely voters (82 percent) believe all voters should show photo ID before they are allowed to vote (that includes a majority in every demographic group). Only 14 percent disagree. This is the highest level of support for photo ID since Rasmussen started polling the question in 2006.
On a related issue, the majority of voters said ballots should be printed only in English. The Justice Department, by contrast, has threatened to sue Cuyahoga County, Ohio, unless it prints ballots in Spanish.
And 56 percent of voters oppose the Justice Department’s lawsuit against Arizona over its immigration law. In fact, 54 percent think Eric Holder should be spending his time suing sanctuary cities, something the Justice Department has specifically said it will not do.
A majority (59 percent) also hope that their own states will pass a law similar to Arizona’s, which helps explain why CNS is reporting that 22 states “are now in the process of drafting or seeking to pass legislation similar to Arizona’s law against illegal immigration.â€Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn
