    NEW BOSTON, Tx -- When New Boston police officers tried to serve a warrant to a man at just after 8 p.m. last evening, he met them at a door and showed them a handgun through the window, said New Boston Police Chief Kerry Pinkham.

    From there, communication literally broke down as the man, Saul Escogido, 46, is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, and does not speak English. Other law enforcement was called to the location on North Merrill Street including Bowie County Sheriff’s officials and another member law enforcement that served as a translator. Bowie County SWAT members were also on the scene.

    Through the translator, police explained to Escogido that he was being served a warrant charging him with choking his wife, who lives in New Boston. Choking someone has recently been made a felony charge in Texas, Pinkham said.

    Added to the list of charges that face Escogido, include sexual assault and now another charge regarding the standoff.

    Pinkham said before the man surrendered at around 2:30 a.m., Escogido was turning the gas on inside the home. The police chief said he suspects that Escogido’s actions were tied to his fear of how he would be treated by U.S. police.

    He admitted that he is illegal and the article says he was in possession of a gun and he was being served with a felony warrant. There shouldn't be any "discussion" with the Mexican counsulate.
