Border agents rescue woman who had just given birth
By Alexis Huicochea
ARIZONA DAILY STAR
A woman who became stranded in the desert near Arivaca was rescued Monday by Border Patrol agents after giving birth in some brush, officials said Wednesday.
Around 8 p.m., a Customs and Border Protection helicopter crew spotted the 18-year-old woman and two other adults in the desert near Elkhorn Ranch and they appeared to be in distress, according to a news release from the agency.
When the agents arrived in the area, the woman told them that she had just given birth in the brush before the helicopter crew saw them, the news release stated. The woman was not doing well and told agents that she did not know she was pregnant.
Because of the thick brush and terrain, it was not possible to land the helicopter near the woman, so Tucson Sector agents took the mother and her baby to Arizona 286 and Elkhorn Ranch Road where BORSTAR agents treated them, the release said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety then sent out a helicopter, which took the mother to University Medical Center while the baby was taken by ambulance, according to the news release.
The woman's citizenship was not determined due to her severe medical condition, it said.
Information on how far along the woman was in her pregnancy was not available Wednesday, said Agent Shannon Stevens, a Tucson sector Border Patrol spokeswoman. The woman and her baby are expected to live.
Stevens also had no information on what happened to the two other people who were with the woman.
This fiscal year, CBP agents have rescued more than 80 people in the Tucson sector, the news release stated.Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...

Woman uses nail clippers to cut cord after desert birth
ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN
The Associated Press
An 18-year-old woman who gave birth to a baby girl in the desert used nail clippers to cut her baby's umbilical cord before being rescued by U.S. Border Patrol agents, authorities said Wednesday.
The woman was spotted Monday night by a Border Patrol helicopter pilot about 25 miles north of Sasabe, said Ron Bellavia, commander of the Border Patrol's search, trauma and rescue operations in the agency's Tucson sector.
The woman, an apparent illegal immigrant identified as Maria Perez Perez, was with two other people, and all appeared in distress, agents said.
She was taken a short distance to a clearing where a helicopter was able to land before it transported her to University Medical Center in Tucson, Bellavia said.
Her daughter was carried on a four-wheel drive vehicle about five miles to Arizona 286 and the Elkhorn Ranch Road, and the infant was then taken to the hospital by ambulance, Bellavia said.
Perez was in fair condition at the time, "but things can go south quickly with a birth," he said.
A spokeswoman at UMC said both mother and daughter were in good condition Wednesday.
Agents were not able to determine the woman's nationality at the time because of her condition, he added.
Bellavia said agents at the scene were told that the woman and those with her had used nail clippers to cut the umbilical cord.
BORSTAR agents in the Tucson sector come across a birth in the desert about once a year, but have not actually delivered a baby yet, Bellavia said.Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...

That's a shame and very sad that people are so desperate. However, as soon as she and the baby recover, they should be transported back to the border along with her two companions.

This woman tried to cross a desert at nine months pregnant, then gave birth in the bushes and told rescuers she didn't know she was pregnant??? Give me a break? Even the poorest and least educated people in the world now realize I believe how and where babies come from. I bet she knew very well this anchor baby she birthed on USA soil would provide the child and likely other family members (especially herself) with all types of freebies such as Medicaid, public-education, free or reduced lunch school programs, WIC, subsidized housing, food stamps and other moocher welfare off the backs of hard working American citizens who often don't get the same welfare during hard economic times.
