Accused cop killer has hearing today

Benito Albarran, the man accused of shooting Huntsville Police Officer Daniel Golden to death in August 2005, is scheduled for a pretrial hearing today in Madison County court.

The pretrial status hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. in Judge Karen Hall's courtroom on the 8th floor of the Madison County Courthouse.

Albarran, 33, an illegal immigrant, is charged with capital murder in connection with Golden's death. Golden, a west precinct officer, was responding to a domestic call at a Mexican restaurant on Jordan Lane when he was shot to death.

The trial is scheduled for Sept. 10.
