The Virginia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says it's concerned about the Loudoun County sheriff's plan to check the immigration status of suspects.

Loudoun County Sheriff Stephen O. Simpson said Tuesday that he made an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to check the immigration status of people arrested in the county who are suspected of being in the country illegally.

Simpson says the program will start this summer. He says deputies won't check suspects only based on their ethnicity.

The ACLU said it has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the sheriff's office, asking for records related to the program.

The ICE program aims to deport illegal immigrants convicted of serious felonies. It is also used in Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park and Herndon.
