Sheriff Joe Arpaio left his office Tuesday afternoon to find a press conference was being held outside promoting musician Manu Chao's participation at Festival de Resistencia.

According to The Arizona Republic, the free concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, on the corner of West Second Avenue and West Grant Street. The concert is meant to be a "celebration of the fight for civil rights, human rights, indigenous rights and the rights of Mother Earth."

Arpaio tried to join in and talk, but was unable to get through the mass of reporters surrounding the French musician.

Chao did say that one of the goals for the concert is to show the community what is happening with the repression of illegal immigrants.

"I write songs about what I see," Chao said. "I'm really, really sorry that in all the travels I've made in my life, all around the world - I've been a lucky man for that - I've never found a place where people told me 'Manu, here, everything is going good.' I Never found this place."
Arpaio didn't seem to care that musicians are coming to protest the immigration policies his department enforces.
"I had Linda Ronstadt. You remember her? She led 10,000 people against me," Arpaio said. "Shakira. Who else came? Santana. They call come. Why don't they ask me to sing? I'll sing with 'em. I'll sing with this guy. Is this guy French? I lived in France."
Arpaio said he would sing "My Way."
