ACLU plans expansion in New Mexico, four other states

HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union plans to pump money into its affiliates in New Mexico and four other states.

Executive director Anthony Romero says it’s an effort to strengthen the ACLU’s presence in places where there is no one else to turn to.

He says about $10 million will be divided among New Mexico, Florida, Mississippi, Texas and Montana in the next five years.

The ACLU describes itself as an organization committed to protecting rights set forth in the Constitution.
