"Maher said the department does not aim to arrest illegal immigrants and that they are safe to report crimes without fear of being turned over to federal authorities. He said only one person was deported as a result of its checkpoints in 2008".

What the hell ... looney toon land , the whole state is a santuary city with only one illegal deported in 2008 with all the illegals they saw , they can`t possibly claim just one criminal out of so many ... no way ...

Latino rights group says police polices creating fear in Latino community
    Good. Now go home.

Here in Waukegan we have seatbelt checkpoints. Signs are posted several blocks before the checkpoint - in English. Too bad.

Maybe the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) ought to change its name to the Hispaic Civil Liberties Union (HCLU) and move to where someone would appreciate them - like Mexico.

ESCONDIDO – The American Civil Liberties Union on Tuesday demanded that the city of Escondido change the way it conducts driver's license checkpoints, which critics say are intended to apprehend and deport illegal immigrants and are resulting in suspicion and resentment among many Latinos.

At a news conference in San Diego with El Grupo – a coalition of Latino and advocacy organizations – the ACLU said the city needs to be more transparent.

Escondido has checkpoints about twice a month, for two hours, on a busy road. Drivers who fail to produce licenses or have revoked or suspended licenses are stopped, and usually their vehicles are impounded.
If a warrant check shows that they are illegal immigrants and are wanted by immigration authorities, they are turned over, Police Chief Jim Maher said. Those who can't be identified are taken to the police station for fingerprinting and a background check.

Andrea Guerrero, an ACLU director, said police should record all interactions between officers and drivers at the checkpoints, list the ethnicity of drivers who are stopped to safeguard against profiling, and appoint an oversight committee to monitor the department.

ESCONDIDO — The American Civil Liberties Union yesterday demanded that the city of Escondido change the way it conducts driver's license checkpoints, which critics say are intended to apprehend and deport illegal immigrants and are resulting in suspicion and resentment among many Latinos.

Councilwoman Olga Diaz, whose husband is an Escondido police lieutenant, said the chief's refusal to consider what the ACLU asked for indicates Maher is inflexible. Diaz said she will ask the council to consider changes to the checkpoint policy.

Fine, how about they put a sign over City Hall and the Police Station:

"We don't want illegal aliens in Escondido"

Think that would be transparent enough for these moronic dolts?

    Where Has Common Sense Gone?
    By Mindy1114 | Posted April 22, 2009, 7:24 p.m.

According to The Inland North County Times (April 22, 2009), El Grupo, an umbrella group of civil rights organizations, held a press conference to call on the city of Escondido to replace its police chief because his policies, especially his department's frequent use of driver's license checkpoints, have created an atmosphere of fear in the community.

At the press conference, a woman said her sister was arrested at a checkpoint and turned over to immigration authorities.

"I don't think what the police are doing is right," said the woman, who, according to the Times, did not want her name published because she said she has other family members in the country illegally, including two of her sister's four children.

Who cares what she thinks? If she doesn't like the way we enforce our laws, she can go back to Mexico. Last year, an illegal immigrant without auto insurance hit my car. An attorney's only advice was that I buy "no fault"insurance next time. According to her, the police wouldn't even arrest her, let alone get her deported.

What a sense of entitlement these people have to think they ought to call the shots. They don't respect our laws or our flag. Many get involved in crime and gangs.

If we're a nation of racists, we wouldn't have 12 million+ illegals here. We wouldn't have a black president. Online, blacks are against illegal immigration because illegals turn Compton's working class neighborhoods into slums. Vietnamese are against iillegals because some say they almost died coming here by boat. Why should illegals get an easy path? There is even a Latino group based in Santa Ana who opposes illegal immgration because illegals drive wages down.

This is not a conflict between white people and people of color. This is about protecting our citizens of every color from law breakers. I support the Escondido police chief and the check points. I support America.
