LYNWOOD -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's re-election campaign Wednesday announced the formation of "Hispanic Families for Arnold," a group of more than 60, including several elected officials.

"I am honored to have these individuals, who have devoted their lives to their families and to bettering their communities, stand beside me as we work to protect the California dream for every resident of this state," Schwarzenegger said at the Plaza Mexico shopping center in Lynwood.

The committee members include Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, R-El Centro, Aliso Viejo Mayor Carmen Vali-Cave and city council members from Santa Ana and Simi Valley.

"The governor has demonstrated time and time again through his actions that public safety -- especially when it comes to our children -- is his top priority," Garcia said.

Schwarzenegger's Democratic opponent in the November election, Treasurer Phil Angelides, has an extensive list of Democratic Latino elected officials supporting him.

"Phil Angelides knows that Latino families are looking for better jobs, increased educational opportunities and health care," Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles, said in a statement released by the Angelides campaign. "That is why we are standing with Angelides for governor."
