Aderholt to head subcommittee on Homeland Security funding

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, was selected Friday as chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security. The choice is expected to be confirmed next week by the House GOP Steering Committee.

The House Appropriations Committee is in charge of funding all federal government departments and agencies, and their programs.

The Subcommittee on Homeland Security is the funding subcommittee for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Secret Service and the National Protection and Programs Directorate. It manages about $50 billion of spending within the annual federal budget.

Aderholt said he was honored to get the appointment “at a time in our history when America’s security is being threatened more than ever before.â€
