TX-Republicans push crackdown on illegal immigration

Republicans push crackdown on illegal immigration
    Updated at 02:29 PM today

Republican activists, bucking Texas Gov. Rick Perry, are proposing a crackdown on illegal immigration similar to a law passed earlier this year in Arizona.

A proposed Republican Party platform calls for the Legislature to make it a crime for any illegal alien to "intentionally or knowingly" be in the state of Texas. It will be debated Saturday at the GOP state convention.

The proposal would make illegal entry a Class A Misdemeanor and require local police to verify U.S. residency when making arrests.

Perry has criticized the Arizona approach, saying it would unduly burden police. Republicans will also select a chairman for the next two years before wrapping up their two-day convention.

Since traitor Rick Perry has the power of veto in Texas there is not a snow ball's chance in hell any of these bills will pass unless two-thirds of the legislature in each chamber reverse the veto. Since the Texas House has 79 Republicans - 71 Democrats and the Texas Senate has 20 Republicans - 11 Democrats I don't see a 2/3's vote to over ride anything Perry wants to veto.

So my guess is some of these politicians are just posturing to try to save their butts when the next elections come up knowing full well they can't get bills like this passed.

Remember what i said i hear on the radio about Solomon Ortiz, Jr.
he said that since hispanic make up 1/3 of the state legislature, they all will make sure that NO immigration enforcement will ever make it out of committee, much less a vote

This state is doomed. Look for Houston to be the new capitol of Mexico with Rick Perry and the GOP leading the way.

In keeping with the anti-incumbent fervor raging through Republican primaries around the country, the Texas Republican Party on Saturday ousted its chairwoman, longtime conservative activist Cathie Adams, and replaced her with Steve Munisteri, a retired Houston lawyer.

Munisteri, who accused Adams of mismanaging the party’s finances, won in a rare floor fight at the state convention in Dallas, taking 59 percent of the more than 7,000 votes cast. Adams has held the top position for eight months.

Although Munisteri reminded convention delegates that both he and Adams were rock-ribbed conservatives, he criticized her for not resolving the party’s ongoing financial problems and for not being aggressive enough about outreach efforts, particularly to Hispanic voters.

Munisteri, 52, was a founder of the Young Conservatives of Texas in 1981 while in college and told delegates about being tossed out of a legislative committee hearing as a 20-year-old because the committee chairman took issue with his outspoken pro-life beliefs. He has continued to work with young conservatives, many of whom volunteered in his campaign for party chairman. Munisteri has worked in Republican races for 38 years, most recently in Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.

[i][i][b]Unlike other anti-incumbent efforts around the country, the incumbent in the chair race was probably the more conservative of the two. Adams, former head of the ultraconservative Eagle Forum, reminded delegates that she had been fighting for 30 years against abortion, gay marriage and the United Nations. “Keep the U.S. out of the U.N. and the U.N. out of the U.S.,â€
