La Joya immigrant smuggler arrested for a second time

La Joya immigrant smuggler arrested for a second time

    Thursday, April 09, 2009 at 10:08 a.m.

A former La Joya school district employee was arrested on illegal immigrant smuggling charges for a second time.

La Joya police arrested Javier Rodriguez for transporting undocumented immigrants on Wednesday.

Authorities said 48-year-old man was pulled over on a traffic violation but had four illegal immigrants inside his car.

Investigators arrested Rodriguez in a May 2007 immigrant smuggling incident where he led police on a chase.

La Joya Police Department Joe Cantu said Rodriguez was serving five years probation for the May 2007 case.

"He did have an Expedition full of people or vehicle full of people and he let them off and finally he got caught," Cantu said. "But in this case, he had individuals still in the vehicle and he did not try to run at this point."

Probation?????? How many more illegals has he smuggled since going on probation? Aren't folks on probation confined to their county of residence unless authorized otherwise by their probation officer?
