At least one of the three men charged in the November murder of Charles A. Angelos Jr. is believed to be a member of the MS-13 street gang and another is said to have admitted to his involvement in the murder, according to an affidavit filed Wednesday in Prince William County Circuit Court.

Marvin Alexis Rodriguez-Barrera, 19, of 3501 Coxcomb Mews in Dale City, is said to have admitted to police that he was an "active participant in the murder," the affidavit states, and was charged Tuesday.

Also charged in the murder were Salvador Maruricio Elias-Miranda, 25, also of 3501 Coxcomb Mews and Elias Isaac Quinteros-Soriano, 29, of 7897 Meadow Court in the Irongate area of Manassas, officials said. Each was held without bond.

The affidavit also states that witnesses at the crime scene saw the attackers throwing up gang hand signs during the incident.

A subsequent search of Elias-Miranda's former residence at 15704 Brandywine Road in Montclair turned up items "supporting his MS-13 gang membership" from his bedroom, Det. Edward Petke Jr. stated in the affidavit.

The items that were recovered during the search were not known at press time.

No additional charges had been brought against Elias Miranda as of Friday afternoon, said Officer John Bogert, Prince William police spokesman.

Angelos, 21, was found dead in the backyard of a residence in the 8000 block of Portwood Turn in Manassas on Nov. 18.

He was last seen getting into a fight with a group of men who he believed had shattered the sliding glass door of his home early that morning.

Witnesses reported seeing the men leaving 8013 Portwood Turn before getting into the fight, and police later seized a Ginsu knife and a knife block with four knives from that residence.

Police also searched Elias-Miranda and Rodriguez-Barrera's current residence and seized four bandannas, a New York Yankees jersey, seven pictures, a cell phone and a Prince William County Adult Detention Center document.

Police said Angelos had sustained "body trauma," but had not been shot, Bogert said.

MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, is a well-known street gang whose presence helped spark the creation of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force.

The gang was started by Salvadoran immigrants in Los Angeles in the 1980s, but has spread to other areas in the country and has been tied to several high profile crimes in the region

    The investigation continues, Bogert said.

A Prince William County Circuit Court jury found a 19-year-old Woodbridge man guilty of first-degree murder and criminal-gang participation in the stabbing death of Charles Angelos Jr.

After deliberating for more than five hours over two days, the jury found Marvin Alexis Rodriguez-Barrera, 19, guilty of both charges.

The jury recommended that Rodriguez-Barrera serve a total of 42 years in prison: 37 years for the first-degree murder conviction and five years for criminal-gang participation.

Rodriguez-Barrera will be sentenced Jan. 24.

Rodriguez-Barrera was accused of chasing Angelos, 21, behind a row of town houses in the Manassas area on Nov. 18 and stabbing him repeatedly in the back.

Prosecutors said Rodriguez-Barrera and the other men who chased and stabbed Angelos acted as part of the street gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13.

Three other men were charged in Angelos' death:

Michael Angel Ayala, 17, is set to stand trial as an adult on charges of murder and criminal-gang participation on Dec. 3.
Elias Isaac Quinteros-Soriano, 29, pleaded guilty in July to charges of criminal-gang participation, destruction of property and grand larceny.
Salvador Mauricio Elias Miranda, 25, pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery and was held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
