Immigration Rally Protestors Will Not Face Deportation

Immigration Rally Protestors Will Not Face Deportation

    Associated Press
    FOX8 Staff Writer
    10:13 a.m. EDT, September 8, 2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)— Protesters arrested at an immigration rally in Charlotte will not face deportation.

Mecklenburg County jail officials say 10 of the 15 people arrested Tuesday are in the United States illegally.

But sheriff's spokeswoman Julia Rush said Immigration and Customs Enforcement told authorities Wednesday not to put detainers on the protesters. Detainers are used to hold people while immigration officials decide on deportation.

The Obama administration said last month people without criminal records who were students, or where brought to the United States as children or who have long family ties to the country would be released from jail and given work permits. None of the 15 had criminal records.

Nearly 200 people took part in a rally at Central Piedmont Community College to protest policies against undocumented immigrants.

These ILLEGALS want the Dream Act Amnesty Bill that will furnish IN-State tuition for ILLEGALS who now replace innocent American students in the limited seats in college at a time when over 10% of Americans are out of work and their families are struggling to train for new jobs and pay for college. Why would you support in-state tuition for the ILLEGALS that will attract more future additional ILLEGALS to the United States and train ILLEGALS for jobs it is illegal for them to have. These students should go back to their HOME countries and stop draining our resources that could be used to assist United States Citizens and not the ILLEGALS! Just follow the money! Some of Elitist Politicians and their Elitist Political Contributors want to continue to have United States Citizens pay the benefits for their ILLEGALS while they continue to have their BOTTOM LINES increased at the taxpayer's expense!

Yadkin County immigrant out of jail on bond

Yadkin County immigrant out of jail on bond

Martin Rodriguez, the Yadkin County resident who was arrested during a sit-in rally this week in Charlotte while protesting U.S. immigration law, got out of Mecklenburg County Jail late Wednesday night on unsecured bond.
Rodriguez, who is not authorized to be in the United States, said Thursday he got out at 11 p.m. and that he had refused to sign paperwork for his release earlier because he wanted to show solidarity with other protesters who were still in jail.
Now out, Rodriguez said being arrested and risking deportation was worth it.
"I think we got the message out to other undocumented students that there is no need to fear because we are not criminals. We're human beings," he said.
Rodriguez' release highlights a shift in how federal authorities handle immigration cases.
Over the past several years, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have frequently opened deportation proceedings against immigrants such as Rodriguez – who were brought to the United States as children, are not authorized to be here and are students without serious run-ins with law enforcement.
On Wednesday, ICE opted not to open proceedings against Rodriguez and at least six other immigrants who had been arrested during the rally, following a directive issued in June by ICE Director John Morton and publicly supported last month by President Obama to give a higher priority to deportation proceedings that involve more serious threats to safety.
Rodriguez, 20, was one of 15 protesters arrested Tuesday after a crowd of about 300 held a sit-in rally near Central Piedmont Community College. Most were initially charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and impeding traffic, police said. The group had a permit for the rally. They were arrested for blocking traffic at an intersection.
Rodriguez's court date for the misdemeanor charges is set for Oct. 27, he said.
His immigration status and misdemeanor charges are separate matters because being in the U.S. without authorization is a civil offense, not a criminal offense, and immigration matters are handled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This is frustrating. Illegals get away with being illegal. Illegals are protected and catered to. What ever happened to common sense and sanity?

You may be correct but I was at one time surprised when I talked with people who are not aware of the magnitude of the Problem with the ILLEGALS and children of the ILLEGALS invading the United States. I guess I find it important to comment on as many source articles as possible. It is often the first time some Citizens who read the source articles and comments have heard the TRUE side of the ILLEGALS invading the United States!

Illegal invading criminals have no fear whatsoever of our laws in this country, especially our immigration laws. Anyone who claims these criminals are "living in the shadows" is a ******* liar!

I would settle for a president who merely believes in the rule of law which means enforcing our immigration laws. Also one that comes in and cleans house, removing all the corrupted, open borders, pro-illegal invader traitors from DHS and the rest of our government. I hope they start with Napolitano because she is an open borders disgrace who should be indicted for treason! I know I'm living in fantasy land, but at least one can dream!

Every illegal invader picked up should be deported because that's what the law mandates!
