February 3, 2006 — A tip led federal officials to the discovery of 27 undocumented immigrants in a Brownsville Country Club home Thursday afternoon.

U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents searched a home in the 400 block of San Marcelo Boulevard at 3:50 p.m. Thursday.

Agency spokeswoman Nina Pruneda said officials found 27 Central American immigrants inside the house.

Pruneda said the immigrants were taken to the U.S. Border Patrol’s Fort Brown Station for processing and would be subject to expedited removal after medical evaluations. Further details were not available at press time.

According to the Cameron County Appraisal District, Raquel Valdez Anderson bought the 2,000-square foot home in September 2003.

It was not clear if criminal charges would apply to anyone found at the house Thursday, but Pruneda said the case is under investigation.
