    AJC Wins Grant for Immigration Reform Initiative

    AJC wins grant for immigration reform initiative
    June 16, 2009

    WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The American Jewish Committee has received a $500,000 grant to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform.

    The Ford Foundation grant will go toward an AJC yearlong initiative that will include a series of roundtable discussions with those involved in the immigration debate in order to seek common ground, the AJC announced in a news release.

    The AJC also will offer advocacy skills-building workshops to Latino leaders and organizations in Arizona, Chicago, Houston and New Jersey.

    "Our goal is to encourage a civil and informed national discourse about immigration that will lead to policies reflecting America’s fundamental commitment to democratic values and human nights, and also respond effectively to our nation’s national and economic security needs,â€

    The American Jewish Committee has sinned against God.

    America was thought to be blessed by God for allowing Jews to worship freely. The American Jewish Committee are working toward bringing Amnesty into our country which will clutter our streets and fill our communities with this low life criminal population. If the American Jewish league is successful, our country will falter, and die.

    Jews, nor Christians will not be allowed to freely worship in our invaded Fascist country, because Obama will come out of the “religious closetâ€

    What we do
    We establish and maintain constructive relationships with leading ethnic, national, and religious groups in the U.S., and support our AJC chapters in this work as well. These honest engagements move us beyond easy cordiality to a profound understanding of one another’s issues and priorities that produces important results.

    First, on matters affecting the Jewish community, we receive a fair hearing and often expressions of support that positively shape public opinion. Secondly, working in coalition, we strengthen advocacy efforts in support of public policy that serves our mutual interests.

    Why our work is critical today
    As the U.S. grows more diverse and issues become more complex and often contentious, it is critical that our voice not be lost in the enlarged American chorus.

    Sustained, informed, honest dialogue—the work of the Belfer Center—keeps us in the game and helps us achieve these imperatives:

    * Broadens our impact on core issues, such as church-state separation, and on behalf of Israel;
    * Reinforces pluralism and social stability, the bedrock of our security;
    * Increases general understanding of Jews, Judaism, and Jewish concerns;
    * Reduces anti-Semitism, racism, and other forms of bigotry.

    Current priorities

    * Building mutual understanding among ethnic, national, and religious groups.
    * Intensifying alliances between Latino, Asian-American, and African-American groups and Jews, building national and local coalitions for effective joint advocacy.
    * Focusing on changing demographics in the U.S. and assessing their impact in American society.
    * Furthering the principles of democracy, pluralism, diversity, and civic engagement.

    Progress by Pesach is the national Jewish campaign to encourage the new administration and congress to choose humanitarian immigration reform over the failed policy of exclusively relying on raids and enforcement tactics as a means of controlling immigration.
