An illegal immigrant living in Boaz was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on drug trafficking and weapons violations, according to U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick J. Maley.

The 11-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Birmingham charges Tomas Ramirez Poulino, 38, with multiple counts of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute in Marshall County and with multiple counts of gun possession.

The charges stem from incidents in 2009 and 2012.

Poulino was also charged with being in the country illegally on April 19 after having been deported to Mexico three times in 2009.

The FBI and the Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit investigated the case.

Poulino faces life in prison and a $10 million fine if convicted of the most serious drug charge — possessing with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of meth.

The charge for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense carries a mandatory minimum five-year sentence.
The charges for possession of a firearm as an illegal alien and unauthorized re-entry into the country by an illegal alien each carry a maximum 10-year sentence.
