He had a trial then he had 2 appeals at the taxpayer's expense. I wonder if he paid his lawyer? Alabama has the death penalty, but he received life so the state has to provide for him until 05/19/2108

MONTGOMERY -- A state appeals court Friday refused to rehear a second appeal of a life sentence given an illegal immigrant convicted in a gruesome drug-related murder of a Marshall County man.

Alberto Trejo, 28, of Geraldine was convicted in the July 2006 shooting death of Antonio Paz.

In a ruling by Judge James Main, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals denied Trejo's request for a rehearing of his appeal.

Paz's burned and dismembered body was found buried in concrete in a shed behind a home near Crossville in neighboring DeKalb County. Authorities said the victim was killed with a rifle.

The jury in Trejo's trial heard testimony that Trejo was a major drug dealer and Paz was shot over illegal drugs.

According to authorities, Trejo had entered the United States illegally and had been deported before the slaying. After he was deported to Mexico, authorities learned that he had re-entered the U.S. illegally.

Trejo is serving his sentence at the Staton Correctional Center in Elmore County. State Department of Corrections' records show his release date as May 19, 2108.
