A Mexican national has been sentenced to federal prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States after previously being deported, U.S. Attorney Leura Canary announced.

Jose Arturo Martinez-Gonzalez, 24, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found Martinez-Gonzalez in Montgomery County on May 20 during an investigation of him.

Martinez-Gonzalez had been deported to Mexico in 2008 after serving a state prison sentence imposed by the Montgomery County Circuit Court for possession of forged instruments.

Martinez-Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the federal charge Aug. 10, according to court documents.

After he is released, he will face administrative removal hearings with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
