A rape suspect on the run may be in this country illegally.
Mobile County Sheriff's investigators say a man who they believe goes by the name Domingo Lorenzo is wanted for questioning in the rape of a 13 year old Wilmer girl. So far, deputies have not been able to find any documentation to confirm Lorenzo is the suspect's real name, and investigators haven't found any proof he's here legally.
"The first thing they're trying to do is verify his true identity," says Sgt. Jerry Taylor, a spokesman for the sheriff's department. "Once that's done they'll be able to check with immigration officials to see if he did have the proper credentials to enter the country," said Taylor.
Lorenzo has been known to frequent the Ridgewood Acres trailer park off Dawes Road in West Mobile. While one of the park's owners says Lorenzo has never paid rent there, some neighbors say they've seen him.
"My daughter doesn't even go outside now," says Warren McLamore. "If she does, I just put her in the car, lock the doors, get in and get out of here."
The suspect is believed to be a family friend of the alleged victim. The rape, which happened on May 30th, was first reported to investigators nearly a week later on June 4th.
Anyone who knows where Lorenzo is should call the sheriff's department at 574-8633.
