ALBUQUERQUE - A resolution proposed by two Albuquerque city councilors to reject Mayor Richard Berry's new immigration policy has failed. The council voted 5 to 4 Monday night against an effort to rescinded Mayor Berry's policy of checking the immigration status of anyone arrested in Albuquerque.
The mayor announced the new policy last week.
Councilors also voted 5 to 4 against a resolution that called for the city government to boycott Arizona businesses because of that state's new immigration law, which requires police enforcing other laws to question a person about immigration status.
The 5-hour meeting included two hours of public comments on the mayor's policy. Police had six officers on hand to provide extra security.

Thank you Albuquerque! Cities ruled by pro-amnesty tyrants have no place in the business of American leadership.

Dozens packed inside Albuquerque City Hall Monday night as the city council tackled immigration reform. At least one person was escorted out of the meeting by police for shouting.
In the end, a proposal to boycott city services connected to Arizona was voted down, and an attempt to block Mayor Berry's new immigration policy was also shot down.
Under the Mayor's new initiative, which he says is aimed at improving public safety, everyone who is arrested in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County will have their immigration status checked.
Toward the end of the meeting, city council president Ken Sanchez put city officials on the hot seat -- accusing them of not notifying the city council about the new policy beforehand.
At the meeting, about two dozen people against Mayor Berry's policy wore stickers on their shirts that read “Keep Albuquerque Immigration Friendly.â€NO AMNESTY

WOW! Way to go Albuquerque! I am shocked. This is great news. The headline for this story could have easily read, "Sanity comes to New Mexico", amazing!
